They closed down the elementary school
And announced they would convert it to a police station.
One of the first things they did
Was to take that rough and uneven front yard,
The one that sloped dangerously toward the road,
The one that grass could barely survive on,
The one that no kid could ever play on,
And perform some landscaping, put down a stairwell
And plant some trees, to make it look nicer.
And I watch them working and think
That they money they could never find
To beautify an elementary school
They've suddenly found now
To beautify a police station.
